Book of Mormon Tour, Day 3 Tikal,Monday 1-19-15

We were up at 4:00 AM and on the bus at 5:00.  We flew to Tikal and took a bus through the country side.  We saw so much poverty.  The animals, the dogs and cows were so skinny!  It was so beautiful and lush, yet such poverty.  We saw fences that once the post was put in the ground, it would start to take root and grow a tree.  The jungle grows so fast, that is is hard to keep the ruins uncovered and sometimes they just let the jungle cover them up.  There were 4 temples in a square and that is how most of the cities were organized.

We saw many alters and Stela's The Stela is the upright by the alter that tells the story.

My hair was curly most of the time.  We had lunch at a little resort cafe and then most of the group walked 1 1/2 mile to this site.  I rode with other people who would have had a hard time walking.

I had climbed up some modern stairs at the back of this temple, so these are shots from up on top.

I have not gotten very good at taking selfies yet.
This was my favorite Stela of the whole trip.  I tells a story with dates at the time that King Limhi took over from Noah.  It has the "and it came to pass gliph on it!

This is an unearthed skeleton.  He was a pretty important guy, you can tell by all the Jade jewelry that he has on him and that he was buried with.
