Last Saturday we went to the Kansas City Temple! It was just dedicated on May 6th. It was such a thrill to be there and to see this lovely temple just 3 miles from Liberty Jail where Joseph Smith was incarcerated for months. It was emotional to see a huge and lovely Stake Center next to the temple and to remember the early saints who suffered such severe persecution and deprivation.
The temple was just dedicated on May 6th, and the staff is still learning their duties. We knew some of the workers and the counselor in the presidency. Our son lives in Lawerance, Kansas, about 1 hour away, and they are in his ward. We felt so at home, the experience gets sweeter with time and it almost seems like a dream.
Glenn is a student of Church history, so driving there was a "Church History" tour. One of the highways we drove on to get there was named after Alexander Donaphan, a lawyer who was a friend and defender of the Prophet Joseph Smith, a fact that I didn't know.
That area back there is so full of Church History; we have been to the Liberty Jail, to Independence and we still have more to go to! We are so lucky to have Erik and Kristi living there. The saints are happy to have this temple, they thought it would never happen! It is lovely!

I'm so glad you got a chance to go! It really is a special place.
I'm also glad you've gotten to know some people in our ward. It makes me feel somehow more connected to family and our ward family at the same time. They get a greater picture of who we are and you get a better picture of our life here. I still can't believe how lucky we are that you were able to come here and stay with the kids. Our memories are getting sweeter too and yes it does feel like a dream. <3

You now have an idea of what my 9 years as an ordinance worker in the Spokane Temple were like. Have had out of the temple experiences with all the members of the temple presidency (up to this last one) and still have gotten to know and love them in the current one. Half of the temple workers themselves I have either had ward or stake callings with over many years.
It is a marvelous experience to go to any temple but to go into one where you are greeted with such love that can only come from true family is a rich experience. I am so glad you got to feel that yourself. Almost makes you want to move there to get that feeling all of the time. dianne
