Obituary for Catherine K Jensen

Catherine Kirby Jensen, 96, died peacefully in her home in Moore, Idaho of natural causes due to age on March 17, 2012.  She was born February 3, 1916 in Tooele, Utah to John Henderson Kirby and Agnes Johnston Kirby of Scotland.  Her family moved to Blackfoot, Idaho when she was 3 years old where she grew up.  Her father passed away shortly after they moved to Blackfoot, she and her 7 siblings were raised by her single mother.  She graduated from high school in 1934 and took some months of nurses training in Idaho Falls, Idaho. 

She married Joseph Doyle Jensen on November 26, 1937 in the Salt Lake City, Utah in the LDS temple.  She was active in the LDS church serving in various callings such as: ward primary president, stake primary presidency, family history consultant, nursery leader, teacher in primary, sunday school, and young women. She is fondly remember  by the youth she taught through the years.   She and Doyle were workers in the Idaho Falls Temple for many years before and after their family History Mission in Suva, Figi (1989-1990).

Catherine loved her children, grandchildren and great grandchildren.  She was proud of their achievements and enjoyed having them around.  She actively participated with her husband on the farm, helping in the hay, cooking for harvest crews, and in the potatoes.  She also helped by marketing eggs and milk and starting bum lambs for the children.  In later years it pleased her to milk the cows for Doyle so that he could have a break, and usually it was so he could go fishing. She was a home maker and enjoyed baking, canning, counted-cross stitching, flower gardening, family history, temple work, various church callings and puzzles in general.  She was known for her sense of humor. Catherine enjoyed life to the end but failed to gain an appreciation for mice!

She is survived by: two sons Joseph Doyle Jensen Jr. of Pocatello and Kirby (Sharon) Jensen of Moore; and five daughters Gwen (Sylvan) Butler of Rexburg, Sylvia (Dale) Jardine of Moore, Katherine (Glenn) Perrins of Moses Lake, WA, Laura Agnes (Roy) Drew of Sandy, UT and Cynthia (Kim) Davies of Moore; 39 grandchildren, 82 great grandchildren with six on the way, and one great-great grandchild with one on the way.  She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband, all 8 of her siblings, one still born child and one great grandchild.

Funeral services will be held Friday March 23 at 11:00 A. M. at the LDS Stake Center in Moore, Idaho.  The family will meet with friends from 6-8 P.M. at The Anderson Funeral Home North of Arco and one hour before the funeral at the LDS church in Moore.  Interment will be at the Lost River Cemetery.
