ALOHA (day two)

We were all up pretty early (5:00 a.m. for me).  I worked on my class for two hours.  I would have gone out to see the sun rise, but I can not tell East from West, and we didn't have time last night to find out where to go.  But we walked down to the beach at 7:00.  I love the ocean, it was deliciously cool, I just walked right in.  It was so hard to leave the water, it will be hard to get me out of here!

We went to Pearl Harbor. We got lost several times on the way there, but we saw country that we wouldn't have seen other wise. Pearl Harbor was a sobering and sacred place.
Glenn took it all in, we felt the sacred sacrifice of the men who died that day.  We feel like they want us to remember them.

These two rusted things are part of the Arizona that was sunk during the invasion of Pearl Harbor
December 7, 1941 killing most the men that were on board. There is a memorial built right over the ship.  The picture below is of the gun turret.  This year is the 70th anniversary of the bombing of Pearl Harbor.  There were 100's of men who were stationed on the Arizona who were not on duty tat day and they survived the bombing.  When most of them have passed away, they have their bodies cremated and put in a capsule that is lowered into this turret and shot into the cavity of the ship.  On thie anniversary nest week, 3 of them will be buried here.  Their families come and they have a ceremony after closing hours to honor them.  The are about 200 of these men who are still alive, they are in their early 90's.

Then we had lunch, did a little shopping and went to Waikiki beach to watch the sunset. Easier said than done. I had to get out of the car to get this shot. Then the light turned green and they drove off without me. I was so happy to be on the beach that I didn't even worry if they would find me in down town Honolulu! This is all we were able to get, but it was worth getting kicked out of the car to get it. Most of all it was worth it to be on the beach, the evening was spectacular! Perfect, no wind, perfect temperature, everyone laid back Hawaiian style!
