It is one thing to have Cancer, it is another thing to have Cancer just as you are about to retire. After Glenn was diagnosed with Cancer, we knew we had to deal with retirement. We thought it was going to be extended out to February or March, but we found out earlier this week that his retirement date is still December 31, 2009. So we are scrambling to get all of our paper work in order, or all of our ducks in a row by December 31st.
We will start Social Security on January 1st. But since Glenn didn't sign up on his birthday, he has to wait until February 1st to get Medicare Part B. Insurance is a big issue at this point, since surgery is scheduled for January 5th. He can go on Cobra for the first 18 months after retirement and that will help. But...we also found out this week that Cobra is a supplemental plan! We thought all along that Cobra was just like the coverage we have now!
We have be gathering information for over a year now and it is amazing to me that these two facts were not known to us. The SS web sight is not clear on this issue and we had never heard the word supplemental, in connection with Cobra. "Buyer Be Aware".
So if you see us and we look a little more than stressed it is because all of our ducks are not quite in a row. I must have my ducks in a row. Oh, bye the way, I am sparing a lot of details here!

On the cancer side of things, Glenn is getting stronger and better every day. But every once is while he will still get pain and nausea in his stomach, even though we do everything in our power to keep ahead of it. He has to eat often, so we carry crackers and snacks every where we go. He takes his medicines. When all else fails, he has to sleep it off.As some of you have asked about me, you will be happy to know that I have been able to pamper myself this week with a hair cut, some special poducts and some tanning sessions. I am going to lunch with some friends today, also! Much needed time out for me! Glenn will be glad to have me out of the house so that he can watch all the golf or game shows he wants, so we will both be happy!

Dealing with all the things with retirement is tiring and aging!! lol Hope all works out for you quickly and you get the help you are entitled to. Glad Glenn is doing better and that you were able to get some time for you. Who does your hair?
This all just seems so overwhelming to keep so many ducks lined up. Ducks do not line up. Good luck herding them, Kathy.
And you're doing the Messiah. That's also been stressful. You won't have to watch Baylee for the rest of this week or any of next week, the sub job is off. So you can relax or work, which ever you need. You really are handling all the juggling with grace and ease. You're doing a marvelous job!
That is frustrating about the insurance. I remember Social Security Department telling me that I did NOT have a 10 year old. I had to prove Nicole existed. The lady said Mam you are 53 years old...you can't have a 10 year old daughter. It was frustrating and so rude at the time of grieving. Not a lot of compassion considering that you have supported their system for so very long. I love you Kathy...wish I could share a cup of hot chocolate with you..Merry Christmas dear friend!
So sorry to hear about the challenges with the insurance. It seems like the rainbows in our lives do not come until after the clouds and the storms. We were just thinking the clouds and rain had parted a bit. We know that things will work out and pray for your inspiration to know how to go forward. All four of you did a marvelous job with "The Messiah." You look so radiant. When you walked into Church on Sunday, I was taken back with your constant beauty midst all these challenges of trying to "line up the ducks." Please be sustained and uplifted by our prayers and faith! There are more that are with you than against you! Hugs!
